Pinckneyville Middle School’s eSTEAM Academy will allow eighth grade students to explore entrepreneurship, science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics by linking their learning to the real world and by encouraging their growth as critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and effective communicators.
According to the school, “As a result of the new academy, changes will be evident throughout many portions of the building from new furniture in the eSTEAM classrooms to a redesign of the Tech Ed. room and construction of a new science lab. However, one of the most noticeable changes will be found in the incorporation of PBL, or project/problem-based learning, as a teaching strategy in order to encourage students to tackle realistic problems and apply their learned knowledge and skills to a real-world situation.”
Not only will this academy expose students to the growing STEM-related career fields, it will prepare students for the exciting high school opportunities that lie ahead for them within the Norcross Cluster to include:
- the Junior Achievement Academy at Norcross High School
- the International Baccalaureate Program at Norcross High School
- and, the STEM focus to be delivered at the new Duke STEM High School opening within the Norcross Cluster in August of 2018
