Tara Kalson, a Certified Fletcher Pilates Teacher, and Rhode Island native is a force to be reckoned with. Merely 3 years after relocating to just north of the Atlanta perimeter, she upgraded her home-based Pilates studio to a storefront location; BODYMAX Pilates, in Peachtree Corners. She’s set out on a one-woman mission to help people of all skill levels, ages, and sizes decrease back pain, increase mobility, enhance posture, promote connection to their core, and improve overall health throughout the thoughtful movement and mind-body connection that define the Pilates method.
Kalson takes a particular quote from Zig Ziglar to heart, displays it proudly around her studio and on various marketing pieces. It reads: “YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE GREAT TO START, BUT YOU HAVE TO START TO BE GREAT”. When asked why, she explains that the thought process is appropriate in many aspects of life. But she passionately describes that the thought should be applied quite literally to Pilates.
Tara truly believes that Pilates is for EVERYONE and that everyone begins at their own “starting point” on their individual Pilates journey. In other words, there is no “right or wrong” in Pilates. One of Tara’s greatest pleasures as a teacher is showing her clients that their bodies CAN move in directions, with fluidity and mobility that they never knew they could before.
Kalson illuminates with enthusiasm when she describes the “light bulb that goes off in a client’s head as their body finally overcomes a previous obstacle, perhaps mentally connects to an otherwise dormant muscle or finally gets that deep stretch that they were unsuccessfully searching for in the past”. It is clear that this is why she does what she does. And this is why her clients keep coming back for more.
She has an infectious passion for her work, for the legacy left behind, and to her dedicated clients who trust their bodies in her experienced hands under her watchful, detailed eye.
BODYMAX Pilates is a beautifully eclectic space with a calming and positive energy…very much like Tara herself. The exclusivity allows for clients to experience more of a “boutique feel” rather than that of a “big box” gym. She calls the studio a “safe haven, a place to check your stress at the door as you enter”.
As a colleague of Tara’s once said: “Working with a teacher who has studied Pilates as a career and not as a hobby can be the difference in seeing benefits in your body. That is why people seek us out.”
