The Spring Gala will be held on Friday, April 28th, from 7-10pm at The Carlyle House in downtown Norcross. Families and businesses from our community will come together to celebrate this year’s Hall of Fame inductees!
Please congratulate Coach Keith Maloof, Melvin Melton, and Alex Ward!
Coach Maloof is a graduate of the University of West Georgia. While there he played on their National Championship football team. He has been a teacher and coach for 32 years the last 18 at Norcross High School. He was instrumental in founding the Foundation for Excellence. Oh, and his football teams have won 5 Region Championships and 2 State Championships.
Coach Maloof helped create a “winning” culture not only in the school but in the community. This type of culture touches everyone in the building. During his 18 years at Norcross High School he has created the ability for the program to sustain success. He is one of the key people that make Norcross great; however, he never wants the attention brought to him. Coach Maloof will always deflect the credit to his coaches and the students. He cares about all students at NHS and has built relationships that go far beyond football.
Keith and his wife Lisa have two sons, Tyler and Tanner, both NHS graduate.
Melvin Melton has been at NHS for 16 years. He is currently the Head Custodian, but is much more than that to the Norcross community. Since arriving, Melvin has been a mentor, advisor and confidant to our students and faculty. He often lends an ear or a hand to students, staff members, parents and guests. Outside of the regular school day, Melvin can always be relied upon to bring a smiling face to any situation and seems to be a part of every NHS athletic, artistic, and community event. He embodies the Norcross High School spirit and his love for our school is obvious.
Additionally, Melvin is the Chaplin for the Norcross Police department and has recently been named the Chaplin for the City of Norcross. He has been one of the associate pastors at Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Lilburn, GA for 28 years. Melvin and his wife Lisa Renee have been married for 29 years. They have two children, a son, Melvin, Jr. and a daughter, Ashley.
While a 9th grader at NHS, Alex volunteered to announce softball games and run the scoreboard. He continued to do this for the next five years. His sophomore year, he started to volunteer to run the scoreboard for the football team. During his junior year, his volunteer duties continued to grow with the addition of providing music for the basketball games and manning the soccer scoreboard.
Upon graduating from NHS in 2006, Alex continued to volunteer for his alma mater and his role evolved into what it is to this day, Game Day Operations Manager for both NHS Football and Basketball. In addition, Alex is responsible for taking all the pictures for the senior banners and displaying them in the cafeteria. You could say that Alex’s blood runs Blue Devil blue.
Alex is currently completing his final year of law school and is preparing to take the State Bar exam.
