Gwinnett County has scheduled a public meeting to discuss the master planning of Simpsonwood Park on Thursday, November 12 at 7 p.m. in the Norcross High School theater.
As part of its 2013 Parks and Recreation Capital Improvements Plan, Gwinnett County had recognized the need for a large open space park in the western part of the county and acquired the 227-acre Simpsonwood property last year. The purchase was funded by SPLOST.
Residents may also apply to serve on the Citizen Steering Committee, which will work to help formulate a master plan for the park.
The track of land, which fronts the Chattahoochee River, had been deeded as a gift to the United Methodist Church by Ms. Ludie Simpson in the early 1970s. The church had built a conference and retreat center on a portion of the property but in the last few years decided to look into selling the property when the confer ence center began to lose money.
Simpsonwood Park is located at 4511 Jones Bridge Road, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092. For additional information on the plans for the park, please call 770-822-8855.
